Prerequisites
You will need the following installed locally before using the code template. Each template’s README lists exactly which of these its pipeline depends on (the LaTeX-only overleaf-template needs none of them).
- Git — https://git-scm.com/downloads. The happygitwithr book provides a step-by-step setup guide if you are new to Git.
- R (≥ 4.0) and RStudio Desktop — https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/.
- Python (≥ 3.12) and uv — https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/. uv manages Python versions and virtual environments automatically; if you have uv installed you do not need a separate Python install.
- Stata (≥ 17, for the
collectframework used in the bundled004-analyze-data.do) with thereghdfe, estout, projectpaths, anddoenvpackages — only required if you picked a Stata-inclusive combo at setup. - A WRDS account — https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/.
- A GitHub account — https://github.com/. Linking your school email gives you free private repositories as well as monthly GitHub Copilot tokens via https://education.github.com/benefits.
